The Public Education Information Centre

Exhibition

Interior

Explaining the complicated financial concepts to the public is not always easy, not to mention to make it suitable for all ages! A good example to illustrate how to convey the complicated financial concepts is the new look of a public education information centre.

As the design consultant and project management company, Oval Design tactfully introduced various interactive elements to integrate play into learning. A brief introduction of the role of monetary authority, its work in promoting the stability and integrity of the banking system and the importance of Linked Exchange Rate System is presented through the interactive games while there are the touchscreen panels to introduce the work of the authority in a more comprehensive manner.

The most iconic creation is placed at the entrance, called “Small Change, Big Ode”.  This mosaic artwork of our world-famous Victoria Harbour was created by making use of Hong Kong coins. Coins of various hues were gathered from various sources, including the coin carts, banks, retail outlets, etc.  The coins used range from sparkling uncirculated coins to well-used and worn pieces.  In order to enhance the multi-layered effect, some parts of the artwork contain up to 15-16 layers of coins.

Flexibly is an essential part of the design and built works to allow future update of content. What’s more the design and works have been planned to the extent of Phase 2 to create a seamless extraordinary experience to visitors and allow them to grasp the key messages in an interesting way.
