Launching Ceremony of the 2018 New Series Hong Kong Banknotes

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the three note-issuing banks announced on 24 July 2018 the issue of a new series Hong Kong banknotes. Oval Design had worked with the HKMA for over a year to develop a comprehensive promotion programme in the hope of deepening people’s understanding of the designs and the anti-counterfeiting features of the new banknotes prior to their release in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The Launching Ceremony

Oval Design was responsible for the design, production and event management of the launching ceremony of the new banknotes. Since for the very first time, the reverse side of the banknotes would be in vertical orientation instead of the traditional horizontal layout, to echo with this new design, Oval Design created a gimmick with three giant vertical scrolls tied with red ribbons. When the officiating guests pulled the ribbons, the three scrolls depicting the HK$1,000 notes designed by the three banks respectively rolled out, which served as a photo opportunity for the media. Moreover, Oval Design also produced an animation to facilitate the explanation of the six advanced security features of the new banknotes by the Deputy Chief Executive of HKMA on the occasion. The visual effects were impressive and the launching ceremony proved to be a success.
