Gateway To Future

On the theme of sea, land, and air infrastructure development of Hong Kong, ‘Gateway to Future’, an outdoor exhibition located at Edinburgh Place, showcased why Hong Kong is poised to become the international gateway to GBA, the world’s springboard to China and Asia. It was designed in an intriguing, interactive and easy-to-understand manner for displaying the most outstanding developments in Hong Kong’s sea, land and air transport infrastructures. By integrating the elements of QR code, AR and chessboard game, the exhibition provides a hybrid function which facilitates physical and virtual to interweave for creating immersive and interactive experience. With the ingenious chessboard design, it is able to see number ’25’ from the top view which symbolize the celebration of 25th anniversary of HKSAR.

Line graphics and details related to transport infrastructures were embedded in each grid of the physical chessboard. Concurrently, the virtual chessboard shown in the online mobile game would also present different fun facts, lively animation, mini game, questions and answers so as to deliver hard facts in a fun and interactive way. Furthermore, eye-catching physical installations were distributed along the chessboard, for example, airport city-autonomous transportation system, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, rotatable sushi table, containers etc. They do not only provide concrete image of transport infrastructures but also a great playful place for photo-taking.

After going through the entire chessboard, the finishing point will bring visitor to an outstanding arch installation, also an immersive AR experience. By using mobile devices to scan the QR code embodied in the gateway, a 360 degree illuminated ring pops up inviting visitors to walk into it. From there, visitor could experience a virtual city travel to popular destinations like Beijing, London, Macau, New York and Paris. The implication of both arch installation and AR brings out a focal message: Hong Kong is a super connector, an Asia’s springboard to the world and an international gateway.
