HKMA 2010 New Series Hong Kong Banknotes

A series of curved structures in this exhibition arranged as fragments of roughly concentric circles created not only a vast amount of space for the display of voluminous information but also a mini-journey through the history of Hong Kong as visitors proceeded from the outermost to the innermost circle.

Designs and security features of the new series of Hong Kong banknotes issued by the three local note-issuing banks were shown on the outermost ring with each bank occupying one of the three curved walls.

Specially-designed interactive features were on hand to educate the public on the eight security features of the new banknotes. For example, visitors could learn about individual security features of a banknote through button-activated text information displays on a large projected image of the banknote.

Images juxtaposing the old face and new look of iconic buildings ever featured in Hong Kong banknotes dominated the middle ring. At the innermost ring was the logo of Hong Kong Monetary Authority sitting atop a column made out of a light-box. The column was encircled by a glass showcase featuring paper crafts of local iconic buildings. The paper crafts were also offered to visitors as mementos of their visits.

The launch press conference, which took place in 2010, featured backdrop which was in fact a 4mm LED wall, which was a state-of-the-art model offering the highest-resolution picture quality ever available. The new banknotes were shown on the LED wall following a launch ceremony performed by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and representatives of the three note-issuing banks. The excellent picture quality allowed the design details of the new banknotes to be shown with unprecedented clarity.
